Hajj Day by Day

🕋
8th Dhul Hijjah — Yawm al-Tarwiyah

Move to Mina

Put on Ihram at your hotel in Makkah. Make the intention (niyyah) for Hajj and recite Talbiyah. Travel to Mina and stay the full day and night. Perform 5 prayers in Mina shortened (qasr) but NOT combined: Dhuhr (2 rakats), Asr (2), Maghrib (3), Isha (2), Fajr (2).

Key Dua

Labbayk Allaahumma labbayk, Labbayk laa shareeka laka labbayk, Innal-hamda wan-ni'mata laka wal-mulk, Laa shareeka lak

Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Surely all praise, grace and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.

Keep Talbiyah on your lips constantly
Rest well — harder days follow
Learn the direction of Jamarat from your tent

9th Dhul Hijjah — Yawm al-Arafah

Day of Arafat — The Core of Hajj

The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Hajj is Arafat.' This is the most important day. After Fajr in Mina, move to Arafat. Combine Dhuhr and Asr prayers (4+4 rakats) at Dhuhr time at Masjid Namirah. Stand at Arafat from after Dhuhr until after Maghrib making sincere dua — this standing (wuquf) is the essential pillar of Hajj. After sunset, move to Muzdalifah. Collect 49–70 small pebbles.

Key Dua

Laa ilaaha ill-Allaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamd, wa Huwa 'alaa kulli shay'in Qadeer

None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without partner. To Him belongs all sovereignty and praise, and He is over all things omnipotent.

Dua at Arafat is answered — prepare your list before the day
Stay in the boundaries of Arafat (not just Masjid Namirah)
Collect pebbles at Muzdalifah — not in Mina
Sleep under the stars at Muzdalifah after Isha
🐑
10th Dhul Hijjah — Yawm al-Nahr (Eid Day)

Jamarat, Qurbani, Halq & Tawaf al-Ifada

4 actions ideally in this order: (1) Rami al-Jamarat — throw 7 pebbles at Jamarat al-Aqabah (the largest pillar) saying 'Allahu Akbar' with each stone. (2) Qurbani — animal sacrifice. (3) Halq (shave head) or Taqsir (trim). (4) Tawaf al-Ifada + Sa'i (7 rounds Tawaf, 7 rounds Sa'i). Then return to Mina for nights.

Key Dua

Bismillahi Allahu Akbar (with each stone throw)

In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest

Throw pebbles from inside the Jamarat basin
After Halq you may remove Ihram (partial release)
Full release from Ihram after Tawaf al-Ifada
Jamarat is least crowded after Fajr or after midnight
11th–12th Dhul Hijjah — Ayyam al-Tashreeq

Three Jamarat Daily — Stay in Mina

Stone ALL THREE Jamarat pillars (small, medium, large) each day — 7 pebbles each = 21 throws per day, always between Dhuhr and before Fajr. You MUST spend nights in Mina. You can leave Makkah after the 12th stoning before sunset. Staying for 13th Dhul Hijjah is better (Sunnah).

Key Dua

Allahu Akbar (with each stone) — make abundant dua between the small and medium Jamarat

Allah is the Greatest — stand after each of the first two pillars and make long sincere dua facing Qiblah

After throwing at small Jamarat: face Qiblah and make long dua
After throwing at middle Jamarat: face Qiblah and make long dua
Do NOT stop for dua after the large (Aqabah) Jamarat
Use GPS to navigate Jamarat — the bridge has multiple levels
🤲
Before Leaving Makkah

Farewell Tawaf — Tawaf al-Wida

The last act before leaving Makkah. Perform 7 rounds of Tawaf. Do NOT perform Sa'i after this Tawaf. After Tawaf, proceed directly to your transport — do not stay and shop or eat. The Prophet ﷺ said the last action in Makkah should be Tawaf.

Key Dua

O Allah, accept our Hajj. Make it a Hajj Mabrur. Forgive our sins. Grant us return to this blessed house. Ameen.

Make this dua in your heart — in any language Allah understands all

Menstruating women are exempt from Farewell Tawaf
Travel directly after Tawaf without stopping
Make final dua at Multazam (between Hajar Aswad and Ka'ba door)

Common Mistakes & How to Avoid Them

Not being in Arafat boundaries

✓ Fix: Confirm your location via GPS. The boundaries are clearly marked. Being outside the boundaries means Hajj is invalid.

Leaving Arafat before Maghrib

✓ Fix: You MUST stay in Arafat until after Maghrib (sunset). Leaving before sunset invalidates the standing.

Throwing before the correct time

✓ Fix: On Eid day, throw after Fajr. Days 11–12: throw between Dhuhr and before Fajr (ideally between Dhuhr and Asr to avoid crowds).

Throwing at the base/pillar instead of basin

✓ Fix: The pebble must land inside the circular basin (hawd), not just hit the pillar. Watch where the stone lands.

Not sleeping in Mina on Tashreeq nights

✓ Fix: Spending nights in Mina on 11th and 12th is obligatory (wajib). Leaving earns a penalty (dam) — one sheep to be slaughtered.

Skipping Tawaf al-Ifada

✓ Fix: This is a pillar (rukn) of Hajj — not optional. Hajj is incomplete without it. Do it on 10th or 11th Dhul Hijjah.

Wearing perfumed products in Ihram

✓ Fix: Switch to unscented soap, deodorant, and moisturiser before entering Ihram. Check labels carefully.

Men covering their head in Ihram

✓ Fix: Even for shade, men cannot cover their head with anything. Use an umbrella instead.
